The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced professional to fill the key role of Director of Health Records & Privacy Office.

What We Do
There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. As a health authority, you will work in a unique setting where you have the opportunity to care for patients in all phases of their life journey, in all areas of their health experience. From Primary, Acute, and Mental Health, Dental, Specialty Clinics, Population Health and the WAHA Paramedic Service, the opportunities for growth are boundless. We provide community-based programming in all six of our communities, have six paramedic bases, three hospitals, four emergency departments, one community health centre and a total of 72 beds. Who You Are
- Expert knowledge of PHIPA and Ontario healthcare privacy requirements
- Strong understanding of health information systems, data governance, medical records, and reporting obligations
- Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices in healthcare
- Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in complex healthcare environments
- Strong leadership, advisory, and relationship-management skills
What You’ll Do
- Acts as the organization’s designated Privacy Office in accordance with PHIPA
- Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive privacy management program
- Provides strategic oversight of health information management functions including:
o Medical records lifecycle management
o Clinical coding and abstracting
o CIHI and other mandatory reporting
o Release of information processes
- Ensures accuracy, integrity, accessibility, and security of health information
- Establishes and maintains an enterprise information governance framework
- ·Oversees records retention, destruction and archival practices
- Serves as a leader contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making
- Provides expert advice to the CIO, and Senior Leadership Team on privacy, information risk, and compliance
- Provides leadership and direction to staff within the Health Information and Privacy Portfolio
- Oversees operational planning, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement
What You Bring
- Bachelor of Health Administration or related field required
- Certified CHIMA Professional preferred or willingly to obtain
- Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/C) preferred
- Minimum of 5-7- years of progressive leadership experience in health information management, privacy or information governance
- Demonstrated experience managing privacy compliance, breach response, and regulatory requirements
- Valid G Drivers License
- Ability to communicate in the local native Cree language is an asset

Salary: $120,022.50 - $143,520.00
