The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the key role of Dental Assistant.

What We Do
There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. As a health authority, you will work in a unique setting where you have the opportunity to care for patients in all phases of their life journey, in all areas of their health experience. From Primary, Acute, and Mental Health, Dental, Specialty Clinics, Population Health and the WAHA Paramedic Service, the opportunities for growth are boundless. We provide community-based programming in all six of our communities, have six paramedic bases, three hospitals, four emergency departments, one community health centre and a total of 72 beds. Who You Are
  • Reliable and responsible
  • Friendly manner, to make the client feel at ease
  • Organizational skills and able to prioritize daily work assignments and that duties are complete
  • Maintain current knowledge of sterilization and reprocessing
  • Able to travel to regional sites for dental clinics
 
What You’ll Do
  • To assemble packs of dental instruments, supplies, trays and equipment according to the designated lists and codes, and to wrap, seal and label, sterilize for use in the dental unit(s)
  • To report malfunction of equipment to the charge person of the Dental Offices and fill maintenance requisitions for repair
  • To maintain the work area in a clean, orderly and filled condition
  • To stock all operatory rooms in the dental department
  • Sterilization of instruments
  • Handing instruments to dentist and assisting with suctioning apparatus
  • Preparation of filling materials
  • Processing radiographs as instructed by the dentist
  • Performing simple laboratory procedures as instructed by the dentist
  • Administrative duties as needed
 
What You Bring
  • Dental Assistant Certification-maintains annual registration and active license in BLS
  • HARP certified (Healing Arts Radiation Protection)
  • Graduate from an approved course for Dental Assistants
  • Required to have the CSAO technician certification course and have passed it successfully. Recertification every five years is required, and ongoing in service is mandatory
  • Previous experience as a dental assistant
  • Ability to communicate in local native Cree language is an asset

Compensation

$37.55 - $37.55 per hour
