The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced professional to fill the key role of Cultural Care Coordinator.

What We Do
There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. As a health authority, you will work in a unique setting where you have the opportunity to care for patients in all phases of their life journey, in all areas of their health experience. From Primary, Acute, and Mental Health, Dental, Specialty Clinics, Population Health and the WAHA Paramedic Service, the opportunities for growth are boundless. We provide community-based programming in all six of our communities, have six paramedic bases, three hospitals, four emergency departments, one community health centre and a total of 72 beds. Who You Are
- Adheres to the OCSWSWW regulations, standards of practice, and competencies
- Strong writing and reporting skills
- Ability to be outdoors and have a certain level of physical fitness for land based and arts- based therapy
- Ability to be creative, conceptual thinking and relationship skills
- Ability to take directions under restraint timelines under workplan
- Strong understanding of policy, program and evaluation processes
- Ability to work outside normal hours of operation for special sessions as may be required- including flexibility
What’ll You Do
- Facilitate indigenous ceremonies and inclusive of other spiritual activities including talking, teaching, healing circles for the Elders and families
- Coordinate and take part in indigenous healing cultural traditional programming
- Take the lead in promoting cultural values by modelling behavior in a manner that serves as an example of positive cultural values, attitudes, beliefs and actions
- Acquire, maintain and care for the education tools/resources e.g. language resources, history, books, art, and traditional and sacred items for the elders
- Plans, prepares and delivers traditional programming, such as feasts and ceremonies, arranges the attendance and participation for the Elders and family members, engagement, preparation, cooking and teachings on health benefits and cultural teachings of traditional foods
- Deliver traditional medicine education, for example: teachings, medicine walks, use, storage, medicine bags, harvesting
- Provide alternative healing methods for the Elders, such as Massage therapy, sound bath therapy, cedar foot soaks, hot stone massage, smudging, holistic healing practices
What You Bring
- Social Service Worker diploma required
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree preferred
- Registered and in good standings with the OCSWSWW
- Cultural/Diversity Awareness/Sensitively Training
- At least 3 years social work experience in a hospital setting
- At least 3 years working in a First Nations Community or within First Nation’s organization
- Must have a valid Ontario Driver's License
- Willing to travel
- Preference will be given to those candidates who are Cree from the Mushkeogwuk Territory

Salary: $72,832.50 - $82,407.00
