What We Do
There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. As a health authority, you will work in a unique setting where you have the opportunity to care for patients in all phases of their life journey, in all areas of their health experience. From Primary, Acute, and Mental Health, Dental, Specialty Clinics, Population Health and the WAHA Paramedic Service, the opportunities for growth are boundless. We provide community-based programming in all six of our communities, have six paramedic bases, three hospitals, four emergency departments, one community health centre and a total of 72 beds. Our guiding goal is to be a centre of excellence in Indigenous and remote healthcare. What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement long term goals, policies, and procedures for laboratory services aligned with the hospital’s mis
- Lead innovation in lab operations, LIS enhancements, technology adoption, and service expansion
- Oversee daily operations of clinical labs, including staffing, quality control, equipment and workflow
- Ensure efficient and accurate testing services across all lab sections (e.g., hematology, transfusion medicine, microbiology, chemistry and POCT)
- Use laboratory analytics to inform clinical and operational improvements
- Optimize resource utilization, staffing models and turnaround times
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation and bio/safety standards
- Lead and prepare for inspections, audits and accreditation surveys
- Maintain responsive, reliable communication and collaborative service delivery
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, variances and ensure cost-effective practices
- Recruit, train and evaluate laboratory leadership and technical staff
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences or related field
- Medical Laboratory Technologist graduate from an accredited or equivalent education, i.e. CSMLS
- Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business or related field
- Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) and in good standing
- Lean Six Sigma
- Ability to communicate in the local native Cree language is an asset
