The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced leader to fill the key role of Manager of Community Paramedicine.

What We Do
There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. As a health authority, you will work in a unique setting where you have the opportunity to care for patients in all phases of their life journey, in all areas of their health experience. From Primary, Acute, and Mental Health, Dental, Specialty Clinics, Population Health and the WAHA Paramedic Service, the opportunities for growth are boundless. We provide community-based programming in all six of our communities, have six paramedic bases, three hospitals, four emergency departments, one community health centre and a total of 72 beds. What You’ll Do
- Provide pre-hospital care in accordance with provincial regulation and organizational policies and procedures
- Liaise with primary care providers/allied health providers such as physicians, pharmacists and care coordinators
- Provide patient education, self-management coaching, welfare checks, post exacerbation and hospital discharge follow up support to manage their underlying condition(s)
- Provide general/appropriate pre hospital emergency medical care
- Demonstrate understanding of public health/social issues and resources
- Support local and community focused home care and aging at home programs
- Develop programming and initiatives that meet the needs of each individual community
- Enhance and build upon strategies and programs to decrease hospitalization in communities through effective pre-hospital and post-acute care services
- Support the organization’s leadership team while advancing the mission of WAHA; to provide optimum healthcare as close to home as possible
What You Bring
- Primary Care Paramedic with A-EMCA certification in the province of Ontario
- Education, knowledge and experience in Community Paramedicine
- Experience leading in a unionized environment
- Strong understanding and knowledge of the unique health challenges of the western James Bay coast
- Understanding of practices in long-term care and aging at home programs
- Ability to communicate in our local Cree language is considered an asset
